Zoning Administrator Certificate Program

From the Planning and Zoning Center at Michigan State University:
Registration for the Fall 2009 Michigan Zoning Administrator Certificate Program offered by the Planning and Zoning Center at MSU is now open. There are eight modules included in each training program leading to a certificate of completion for those that pass an exam associated with each module. Each module is about three hours of instruction (24 hours total).
Dates and locations:
- Northeast Lower Peninsula (Bay City – AmericInn), all day on the following Thursdays: October 22, 29, November 5, and 12
- Northwest Lower Peninsula (Traverse City – Garfield Township Hall), all day on the following Wednesdays: October 21, 28, November 4, and 11.
- Southeast Lower Peninsula (Mt. Clemens – Macomb County Health Department), all day Tuesday, September 22 through Thursday, September 24.
- Southwest Lower Peninsula (Ionia – Ionia Intermediate School District), all day Tuesday, October 6 through Thursday, October 8.
Participants in the Spring 2009 Zoning Administrator Certificate program found it extremely worthwhile:
- 87% of program participants rated the program “excellent,” while the remaining 13% rated it “good.”
- (Prior to the certificate program,) 51% of Spring 2009 participants described their knowledge as “good” or “excellent.”
- Following program completion, 95% of participants described their knowledge of zoning administration as “good” or “excellent.”
- Nearly all program participants would recommend all zoning administrators and all consultants providing zoning services attend this program.
Comments from participants at the end of the program were overwhelmingly positive:

- “Covers a broad range of issues…everyone would learn something or several somethings regardless of their experience level.
